Apple's iPhone 6s includes an advanced 3D Touch screen, improved camera and a host of new software tools but one feature appears to have taken a step backwards - the battery.
A screenshot from a promotional video played during last week's Apple conference shows the new handset has a 1,715mAh battery, compared with the iPhone 6's 1,810 mAh unit.
However, although this means the new handset has around five per cent less capacity, the battery life of the two cells has been listed as the same.

For example, the iPhone 6 and 6s are both said to offer up to 14 hours talk time, 10 hours internet use and have a standby talk time of up to 10 days, according to reports on ZDNet.
Likewise, the lifetimes are the same for the iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 6s Plus handsets, which offer up to 24 hours talk time, 12 hours internet use and have a standby talk time of up to 16 days.

This may be due to the fact Apple is promising significant power saving features in its iOS 9 software meaning these efficiencies will offset the slightly smaller battery in the new handset.
These include ambient light and proximity sensors that know when the iPhone is face down on the table. These then prevent the screen from turning on when a notification is received.
It has also added a Low Power mode to give the battery life an extra hour of additional time before charging.

The firm said: 'Across the entire operating system, apps and key technologies have been made more efficient to trim battery usage wherever possible - so you get more battery life for the things you do every day.'
Despite packing a smaller battery, the new handsets are heavier than their predecessors by around 11 per cent.
The iPhone 6s weighs 5.04 ounces (143g) compared to the iPhone 6 at 4.55ounces (129g), while the iPhone 6s Plus weighs 6.77 ounces (193g) compared to its lighter predecessor at 6.07ounces (172g).

Despite packing a smaller battery, the new handsets are heavier than their predecessors by around 11 per cent. This is because of the new 3D Touch display (pictured)
This is not down to the stronger aerospace-grade aluminium alloy used in the 6s, however, but the 3D Touch display.
Apple said the aluminium used in the 6s' 7,000-series alloy is two grams heavier than that in the iPhone 6's 6,000-series, but the display weighs twice as much as before, rising from 12 grams to 29 grams.
This is because a new layer was added to measure pressure, making the screen thicker and heavier.
The 3D Touch screen allows users to press harder on the screen to access extra menus and even a special selfie feature.
In total, the 6s weighs 14 grams more than the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6s Plus 20 grams more than the older model.

APPLE UNVEILS 'MOST ADVANCED SMARTPHONES IN THE WORLD'
The phones (pictured) look almost identical - but include a new 3D touch screen
Apple's boss Tim Cook said at the launch event last week: 'iPhone has changed the world. And while they may look familiar, we have changed everything about these new iPhones.
'The iPhones you are about to see are the most advanced smartphones in the world.'
The iPhone 6S and 6S Plus come in four finishes - silver, gold, space grey and rose gold - and come in two sizes that match last year's handsets measurements.
They are covered by a brand new glass that Apple said is 'incredibly durable.'
Apple's Phil Schiller added: 'The most profound feature ever bought to the world is multi-touch.
'So our team has been hard at work to deliver a new experience that is just as profound.
'They've done it and it's called 3D Touch.'
Similar to Force Touch seen on the Apple Watch and new Macbook, the feature responds to specific pressures.
For example, pressing lightly on the screen provides a 'peek' at the content, while pressing harder opens that content.
This is done by measuring microscopic distances from a range of sensors to accurately measure pressure.
It will cost the same as the iPhone 6 and 6Plus, from $199, and go on sale on 25 September.
Apple has also boosted the camera to a 12MP iSight to boost picture quality, and it can now record video in 4K.
There is additionally a new 5MP front-facing camera to boost selfie quality, which uses the screen as a flash.
It also revealed a new 'live photo' which mixes a still and video image. Pressing on the picture causes video to show and audio to play, and the pictures are created automatically.
